I hate -- hate -- when American politicians talk about the costs of the war as if American casulties are the only loss that matters.
That was a moment when I found Obama distinctly unlikeable. Sigh.

Seriously. I'm sure his intent was to go for being dismissive of Obama because of his inexperience, but McCain wholly failed (not surpisingly) to consider the context of treating with disdain an opponent who's a person of color. Spudsy and I were talking about it on the phone while the debate was going on, and both of us were positively squirming with the cultural connotations McCain was carelessly invoking. He appeared utterly contemptuous of having to share a stage with Obama, and that's just a complete disaster of a strategy when you're standing onstage with a historic candidate.

Daí a Melissa, de novo. Porque ela disse, no post, que o Obama tinha assumido uma linha *o* adorável durante o debate. E que o McCain tinha adotado a linha *o* condescendente. Eu não notei isso, claro, por causa da tradução simultânea. Que impede que a gente perceba essas coisas. Mas o caso é que a condescendência do McCain flerta demais com o racismo. E eu achei muito bem colocada essa observação.

Eu não notei isso, claro, por causa da tradução simultânea. Que impede que a gente perceba essas coisas. Mas o caso é que a condescendência do McCain flerta demais com o racismo. E eu achei muito bem colocada essa observação.
